North Carolina Real Estate License Requirements
Provisional Brokers Licensing Requirements to Obtain a Provisional Brokers License: 1) Be at least 18 years of age 2) Be a United States citizen, a non-citizen national or a qualified alien under federal law 3) Have a social security number 4) Satisfy one of the License Qualification Options listed below: a. Completion of the prescribed 75-classroom-hour North Carolina broker licensing course b. Education and/or unlicensed experience in real estate equivalent to the broker licensing course c. Licensure and/or completion in another state of a real estate salesperson licensing course of at least 75 classroom hours in another state with which North Carolina has reciprocity [Examination not required for this option only.]
5) Pass the real estate license examination (Exceptions: Persons eligible for licensure by reciprocity and some license reinstatement applicants) 6) Satisfy the Commission that they possess the requisite character to be entitled to licensure

Provisional Broker Post-Licensing Educational Requirements to Renew a Provisional Broker License for the 1st Time: Post-licensing continuing education cannot be completed via online courses. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission requires a first time licensee to complete 90-classroom-hours of post-licensing education between the 1st and 2nd years of licensure. Broker CE Educational Requirements to Renew a Broker's License: Complete 8 hours of North Carolina Real Estate Commission-approved continuing education each annual renewal cycle. This education must include 4 hours of a mandated legal update course. The remaining 4 hours may be any elective courses. All education must be completed by June 10th of each year. No education provider may offer CE between the dates of June 11th and June 30th.
